Short Term Financial Aid

Are you experiencing financial difficulties?

Through our fundraising efforts, NABS is able to offer short-term financial aid to those who meet the eligibility criteria. This aid is intended to be a bridge from a difficult spot to a better one, and is only offered to those experiencing financial hardship for a set period of time.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  1. Complete NABS Intake Form
  2. You will be contacted by a member of the NABS staff within two business days.
  3. If you are deemed a candidate, you will be asked to fill out several forms regarding your current financial status including, but not limited to, household expenses and current income/assets.
  4. Your information will be sent to an independent financial advisor for review, and their recommendations will be sent to our Allocations Committee.
  5. The Allocations Committee is made up of industry professionals who are not made aware of the names of applicants, only their case details. After review and discussion, the committee will determine eligibility for aid. Please note financial aid may be predicated on further support such as counselling.
  6. The total process above will take 4-6 weeks from date of intake call with NABS staff.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM NABS

Our assistance should be seen as short-term-generally 3 months, although some exceptions have been granted. Ideally, after this period, you will have re-entered the work force, reorganized your personal expenses to fit your income, or have obtained government or other forms of assistance. We will move quickly to determine what help we can provide and what actions may be necessary for you to re-establish independence from NABS. We may ask you to take career, credit or personal counselling as a condition of our financial assistance.

WHAT NABS EXPECTS OF YOU

We expect that you will be totally honest with us, and our agencies, in all regards. We expect that you will provide full and truthful supporting documentation to your claims. We expect that you will seriously consider any advice offered.

If the above requirements are not met, NABS reserves the right to withdraw support.

WHAT IS NOT COVERED?

NABS Financial Aid is available only through the generosity of our donors and is therefore a limited resource. In order to help the largest number in our community, we unfortunately cannot provide aid in the following circumstances;

    (Long Term Disability, EI, etc.)
